Elizabeth Gaskell Movies

Motion Picture & Television

Elizabeth Gaskell certainly doesn't have the reach in film and television that a Jane Austen might have but her works have appeared in small- and large-budget adaptations nonetheless. One of the most well-known and revered pieces is the 2004 BBC production of North & South starring Richard Armitage and Daniela Denby-Ashe. Cranford, also delivered by the BBC, was a years-long series featuring an ensemble cast led by Dame Judi Dench. It represents the most recent of Gaskell's work put to television, ending its run in 2010.
